More ideas……. chapter 11

I have some really beautiful leaves made from hand made paper and would like to use them?

 

I love the idea of placing these somehow into the pockets created by the front and back pages of my concertina book in chapter 11

Wondering if I could create some surprises like this little book from chapter 10

“Take a leaf from my book!”

And maybe print some photos of the fall onto some beautiful delicate paper which could be torn into shape?

I have this gorgeous photo of the forest floor for instance:

I should add that the book I took information and  inspiration from for chapter 10 was Cover To Cover by Sheree La Plantz.

I also discovered 2 beautiful books by Cas Holmes Stitch Stories and The Found Object both of which are a wonderful resource for bringing together ideas.

Chapter 11 To make a special book structure related to media

In this chapter we have to create an embroidered panel which will be incorporated into a special book structure related to media.

I want to create a book structure which reflects my experience during a trip to New York in the fall of 2014.

I plan to make my book structure using hand made paper supported by linen scrim which has been embedded during the paper making process.

There are several techniques from this module which I’d like to include:

• The forest floor samples at the end of chapter 8 where I  experimented with with incorporating letter and leaf shapes and motifs.
• The lettering and media patterns in chapter 4 especially those further developed in sample 7 chapter 8 using stitchery into paper [cable stitch].

Playing with ideas:

I made up a small paper model to help clarify my ideas in a visual way [ this isn’t the bigger mock up which will come later in the chapter].

My next task was to make more sheets of handmade paper with scrim embedded between two layers [for strength] as on these I plan to add text worked in machined cable stitch. These will reflect and be placed behind the leaf and letter motifs.

Ideas for the lettering patterns text which will reflect the letter and leaves motif in chapter 8.

Putting together my book structure:

I wanted my embroidered motifs to be arranged in a particular sequence as mentioned earlier

I started by printing off my letter and leaf motifs and lettering samples. I placed these back to back to make a strong structure with interest  on both sides.

To produce the concertina book type I decided to work blanket stitch at the joining edges and then added an insertion stitch to give a lovely decorative page turning method. I used threads of complimentary colours within my colour scheme

The motifs and letter patterns are arranged in such a way to reflect each others’ meaning.

I need to think of a clasp and brought back these gorgeous acorn shells. I need to think of how to use them, perhaps with some hand made paper maple leaves.

Maybe like this with a beautiful wrapped cord.

Chapter 8 revisited

I have made another forest floor motif to add to those in chapter 8, I already had the embroidered N motif and the maple leaf / american oak but I wanted to add a similar motif featuring the enhanced letter Y. The N and Y represent the initials for New York whilst the maple leaf and american oak represent the forest floor. All together I want them to stand for New York in the fall and how this works will become clearer soon as I begin to work on my book structure.
